Rita

Rita Honeycutt is a Veteran Service Officer for Randolph County Veteran Services as well as a Mental Health First Aid Instructor. As a Veteran Service Officer, Rita assists veterans with obtaining their healthcare, compensation, and education benefits through the Department of Veteran Affairs. Within her role, she has actively been leading the fight in her county to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health not only within the veteran population, but across the community as a whole by offering MHFA classes as well as partnering with other organizations to bring awareness to training programs like QPR(Question Persuade Refer) and ASIST(Applied suicide Intervention Skills Training.) As a Peer Support Specialist, Rita has created a different way to handle cases from the VSO standpoint, working to add services within her office for resume writing, career services, housing, and a food pantry for those dealing with food insecurity. She strongly believes that by addressing all determinants of health, it will ease some of the stresses of those struggling with mental health challenges. Rita also is a mental health wellness and nutrition coach working to bring awareness to the mind body connection and how important the physical wellness of a person is when looking at their mental health. Rita obtained both her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Psychology at Phoenix University, and her wellness coaching certificate through NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine.) She is also currently a student of the Shackleford Leadership Institute. She released her first book, Jeeping with Jesus, with her friend Rebeka Kelley in 2022, and is currently writing her second book, From Fat to Fit: My Whole Body Journey. As a veteran who has struggled with depression and avoided addiction for many years, she brings her personal experiences to her work. In her spare time, Rita and her husband, Jason, own and run Honeycutt Home Improvements, LLC, which specializes in accessibility needs for veterans in their homes. She is an avid runner, believing that the fast racers need someone to go slow. She teaches AB Lab classes, focusing on core body strength and mobility needs. She is also a board member of her local American Legion Post in High Point, as well as the Chair of Thrive RC Vets, a nonprofit that supports mental health and mobility access needs. She is also a mom, gardener, scrapbooker, and most importantly, an animal lover with 3 dogs, 2 of which work in therapy dog needs, and 2 cats, who just run her house. Rita can be reached using the form below, on LinkedIn, or via her office email at rita.honeycutt@randolphcountync.gov.
